Building Buzz Before the Event
Over the course of two months, the Fluor Communicators PR Team created excitement with social media video messaging leading up to the Open House. The results were clear: 65 individuals RSVP’d and 60 attended. This was one of our strongest turnouts yet!
A Warm “Bondfire” Welcome
Our “Bondfire: Igniting Connection and Community” Open House was about more than speeches. It was about connection.
The event began with a warm welcome from Toastmaster Marcy Field, DTM, who shared the mission of Toastmasters: empowering individuals to become better speakers and leaders. Immediately, guests felt at ease in a supportive, encouraging atmosphere.
Bondfire Table Topics: Fun and Spontaneity
The energy grew with a special round of summer themed Bondfire Table Topics, led by Table Topics Master Arobo Ako. Guests, including Fluor management, were invited to grab a “s’mores stick” with a speaking prompt attached.
Laughter filled the room as participants responded to spontaneous questions. Some even broke into song! Nerves quickly melted away as guests discovered the fun of impromptu speaking in a no-pressure environment.
Inspiring Speech on Artificial Intelligence
Next, our VP Education, Amita Garg, captivated the audience with a thought-provoking speech “The Art of Being Artificial”. She shared how we can embrace AI in our lives, sparking curiosity and meaningful reflection.
Growing Through Constructive Feedback
The evaluation segment, led by Masoud Shahanaghi, highlighted the Toastmasters commitment to continuous improvement. His supportive feedback helped speakers grow while showing guests how evaluations are central to the learning experience.
Networking and New Friendships
After the formal meeting, members and guests mingled during a lively networking session. The “Bondfire” lit up conversations, stories, and budding friendships.
One guest shared: “I have always wanted to join Toastmasters but felt too nervous to attend a meeting on my own. Everyone made me feel comfortable, and I will come back!”
Open House Success That Sparks the Future
By the end of the afternoon, six guests expressed interest in joining the club, a clear testament to the event’s success and welcoming atmosphere.
As the embers faded, the momentum carried forward. We’re already planning creative new ways to connect people to the Toastmasters experience. Stay tuned and don’t forget to bring a blanket!
