Finish Strong

Energize Your Toastmasters Club Before the Summer Break

At this time of year, it can be tempting to mentally check-out of Toastmasters. But June can be the perfect time to reflect on progress, celebrate wins, and set the stage for a vibrant new year. Here are some tips for clubs and individuals to finish the year on a high note.

Hold a “Year in Review” meeting where members highlight their growth, complete final Pathways projects, or receive recognition. Certificates, shout-outs, or even simple applause go a long way!

Plan a themed meeting, potluck, or outdoor gathering. Social connection strengthens member retention and gives everyone something to look forward to.

Many people begin thinking about personal development in the summer. Reach out and invite guests—June is a great time to visit a club so that the potential member can think about their experience over the summer and officially join in September if they’re interested.

Consider shortening meetings or making them more relaxed. Focus on fun table topics, humor, or impromptu storytelling. Add a joke master or a quizmaster (tests listening skills and asks 3-5 during the evaluation portion of a meeting) to your meeting roles.

  • Encourage Goal Completion
Motivate members to finish a Pathways project or take on one last meeting role to end the year with momentum. Help your club get those last DCP points!
  • Promote Continuity
Remind members about summer meeting schedules and encourage attendance. If your club is not meeting over the summer, be sure to check out the Sunshine Clubs list on  www.district42tm.org

By ending the Toastmasters year with intention and excitement, you not only honor the progress made but build energy and anticipation for what’s to come. Let’s finish strong—see you at the next meeting!

Just to impress your fellow Toastmasters and others at a meeting-here’s some trivia about the month of June.

The month of June is named after Juno, the ancient Roman goddess of marriage, childbirth, and the well-being of women. She was the wife of Jupiter (the king of the gods) and the queen of the Roman pantheon. Because of this association, June has traditionally been considered a lucky month for weddings—a custom that continues in many cultures today.

All the best,
