Club Growth Summit Summary

On February 14, District 42 hosted a dynamic Club Growth Summit centred on the mission of Toastmasters International: to build new clubs and support all clubs in achieving excellence. The event reinforced a simple but powerful truth — growth begins and ends with members.

The summit opened with a reminder that members are the engine of the organization. They run meetings, progress through Pathways, serve as club and district leaders, and step forward as sponsors, mentors, and coaches. Building new clubs happens when sponsors transform leads into charters. Supporting excellence happens when mentors and coaches strengthen culture and restore struggling clubs. Every role connects directly to the district mission.

The Club Retention Committee energized the room with an interactive icebreaker that highlighted the importance of engagement and proactive retention.

Dan Arbuckle, Region 3 Regional Advisor, provided a regional snapshot of District 42’s performance. His data-driven update affirmed areas of strength while identifying opportunities to focus on in the second half of the term.

The Club Extension Committee shared practical insight into building sustainable new clubs, emphasizing strong charter membership, effective sponsorship, and structured mentorship. They are excited to explore any leads that come their way to charter new clubs and sustain them in their first year.

Distinguished Toastmaster Ryan Rupchan spoke on revitalizing membership through meeting quality. Engaging, well-run meetings remain the most effective recruitment and retention strategy.

Saya Sanyal reflected on her coaching success with Crowfoot Communicators and Chinook Toastmaster emphasizing that effective coaching requires both measurable goals and genuine human connection.

District Training Chair Marg Ustupski highlighted the importance of equipping club officers with practical tools and leadership confidence, while

Program Quality Director Stacey Kaminski underscored how Pathways, speech contests, and district events keep members engaged and invested.

The message of the summit was clear: club growth is not a single initiative but a coordinated effort across membership, coaching, training, and program quality. When members grow, clubs thrive — and District 42 advances its mission of building leaders in our communities.

For those who missed it, the club growth summit will be posted on YouTube.
