Sustainable or Not Sustainable
Set Your 2026 New Year Tone Right
2026 is here. New year. Same you. Same habits returning like laundry… it is never “done,” it is just “paused.” Real fact: big resolutions often crash because we overestimate willpower and underestimate systems. So, if someone followed your week, would they call your life sustainable?
On Tuesday, Jan 13, Green Horizons Toastmasters is hosting a meeting that helps you reset without guilt, without perfection, and without pretending. Just clarity, courage, and a next step.
Checkout scene: you reach into your pocket. No reusable bags. A narrator whispers: “Here we see a human… responsible for single-use plastic… again.” You do not need a lecture. You need a doable plan.
That is where our first speaker comes in: Heather White. she was featured on Good Morning America, and Erin Brockovich calls her “the Brené Brown of the environmental movement.” Her message: You do not need to save the whole planet by Tuesday. You need One Green Thing you can repeat.
Heather white speech titled “One Green Thing: Discovering Your Service Superpower to Protect the Planet.”
Now shift scenes—an old-growth forest. Everything gets quieter, not because it is empty, but because it is full. That is where our second speaker takes you:
Eric Pittman holds a Guinness World Record and appears in the award-winning CBC Gem documentary The Bird in My Backyard. He also has the Governor General’s Medal of Bravery. He is connected to the Canadian Orca Rescue Society, supporting orca education and salmon habitat restoration. His question: What are we willing to protect, even when it is not convenient?
Eric Pittman’s speech Title: Crossing the Walbran (Old Growth Forest)
Behind the scenes: Green Horizons’ powerful executive team, Debbie Stearns, Chuck Leblanc, Marg Ustupski, Bev Leblanc, Ron MacTavish, Justin Amaldas, Cathy Morrell, and Norma Bruins.
Takeaway: In 2026, do not ask “What goal should I chase?” Ask “Who am I becoming?” One green thing. One brave step. One meaningful start.
