Change is Coming

Summer will soon be a fading memory. The colour of the leaves will change from green to the rich colours of fall. The season will change. There will also be a change to the colour of Toastmasters this fall. At the recent Toastmasters International Convention in Anaheim California, Toastmasters International Chief Executive Officer Daniel Rex updated members on the exciting change to the Learning Management System which Toastmasters will be rolling out in the near future.

The highly anticipated changes to Base Camp are in the final testing phase. It is anticipated that the new learning management system will be launched to the membership in October.

What can you anticipate? According to the Toastmasters Website:

  • You will have an easier time navigating the system, launching your path, and working through projects.
  • You will be able to access Pathways on your mobile phone, with a mobile app to follow in the future.
  • When your completed path is approved, it will automatically be submitted for recognition in Club Central.
  • Pathways will be accessible to Visually Impaired members.
  • You will be able to share your accomplishments across social media platforms, including LinkedIn.

The change to the new learning management system will bring about changes in how we interact with our paths, projects, and the system itself. There will also be a significant change in how clubs process level completions. Gone will be the two-step process for a club to get Distinguished Club Program (DCP) points.

To ensure a smooth transition, there will be a period when Base Camp will not be available as the transition takes place. During the changeover, no member achievements can be submitted on Base Camp or in Club Central. Base Camp Managers and club members need to become familiar with the outages. The changing of the seasons can be harsh but it also can be beautiful. If we are aware change is coming, and take the necessary steps to prepare, we can enjoy the beauty change brings.
