Rising Email Threats Targeting Our District

We’ve recently seen a concerning rise in spam and phishing emails targeting Toastmasters leaders and members across our district. These emails often impersonate District officers, request urgent actions, or contain malicious links or attachments.

These attacks are part of a broader global trend — but together, we can reduce the risk by staying vigilant and taking a few important precautions.

What Do These Emails Look Like?

  • They may appear to come from someone you know (e.g., “District Director” or “Webmaster”) but use a slightly altered email address.

  • They may request you to:

    • Click a link to “verify” or “update” your information.

    • Purchase gift cards urgently on someone’s behalf.

    • Download an attachment labelled “invoice” or “important notice.”

How to Stay Safe:

  1. Double-check the sender’s email address. If it seems off, it probably is.

  2. Never click on suspicious links or download unexpected attachments.

  3. Don’t respond to requests for money or personal info over email — even if it seems urgent or “from leadership.”

  4. Use official communication channels when in doubt. If something seems suspicious, confirm it via phone or a verified email.

  5. Report it. Forward suspicious messages to your club’s VPPR, our District Webmaster, or your IT contact.

Final Tip:

When in doubt, don’t click, don’t reply. Ask first.
Let’s keep our Toastmasters community informed, safe, and thriving.
